CHAIRMAN REGMI, EU DELEGATION DISCUSS ELECTIONS. Kathmandu, 11 June: Non-Resident Ambassador of Cyprus to Nepal Maria Michail on Tuesday called on Chairman of Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi at the latter's office Singha Durbar, RSS reports.. On the occasion, Chairman Regmi said that sole target of his government was to conduct free and fair Constituent Assembly elections (CA) as soon as possible, according to Spokesperson of the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Mahendra Kumar Thapa. Similarly, a delegation headed by European Union (EU) Ambassador Dr Alexander Spachis called on Chairman of the Council of Ministers Regmi today. During the meeting, matters relating to Nepal's upcoming CA election, electoral laws, inclusiveness, delineation of electoral constituencies and local bodies' election were discussed. On the occasion, Chairman Regmi appraised the EU delegation of the latest development on the formulation of electoral laws. He said a draft of the law would be finalized soon and presented before the President for further action and the election date would be announced. He urged one and all to have confidence that the government would ensure free and fair election, keeping the interests of the nation in the center. nnnn DETAILS OF FORMER KING’S RAJBIRAJ ACTIVITIES Kathmandu, 11 June: Former king Gyanendra Shah today offered worship at the Rajdevi Goddess Temple at Rajbiraj-9 on Tuesday morning, RSS reports from Rjbiraj.. Hundreds of pro-monarchists and members of general public who had assembled at the temple premises welcomed the former king with garlands when he reached there. Officials of the visit organizing committee, members of the Shiva Sainik, general public and school children had waited for hours in queues to see the former monarch. On Monday, former king Gyanendra paid homage at the Kankalani Goddess Temple at Bhardaha VDC and at the ancient Hnauman Temple at Hanumannagar in Saptari district. Nnnn LANDSLIDE DISPLACES 10 HOUSEHOLDS IN SOLU Kathmandu, 11 June: Ten households have been displaced due to a landslide at Ward No. 6 and 7 of Baku VDC in Solukhumbu district, RSS reports from Solukhumbu.. Family members of the displaced households have been taking shelter at their relatives' homes after heightened risk of more landslides there. Similarly, the landslide disrupted teaching learning activities of local three schools from May 25. Purna Khaling, a teacher of Jaleshowri Lower Secondary School, said that the schools are not running classes although they have opened for the past few days. Nnnn TRAFFIC ON ARNIKO HIGHWAY DISRUPTED Kathmandu, 11 June:: Transport entrepreneurs have disrupted the Chehere road section of the Araniko Highway to protest the arrest of a truck driver on the charge of smuggling ivory, RSS reports from Dolakha.. Container workers have been disrupting the highway services since 5:00 am today, saying that Suraj Shrestha, an innocent person, was falsely charged of his involvement in the smuggling and arrested. Due to the highway disruption dozens of vehicles bound to Kathmandu from Dolakha, Sinhupalchowk, Ramechhap have been stranded along the highway. Shrestha was arrested from Sangachowk of Sindhupalchowk district with an elephant tusk hidden under the driver's seat in his vehicle. The container workers have warned of continuing their protest until Shrestha was released. Shrestha denied his involvement in the smuggling, stating that he was only carrying the goods belonging to a Chinese national in the pack. nnnn
