CHAIRMAN REGMI FOR ONE CHINA Kathmandu, 25 June:Chairman of the Interim Election Council (IEC), Khil Raj Regmi has said Nepal is firmly committed to the One China Policy and reaffirmed its stand that the territory of Nepal would not be allowed to be used for any activities against China, RSS reports.. Chairman Regmi expressed the commitment during a meeting with Yang Jiechi, State Councilor of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, at his office today. On the occasion, Chairman Regmi briefed the Chinese dignitary about the obtaining political situation in the country and about the declaration by the government of the date for the Constituent Assembly election for November 19, 2013. Regmi also informed the Chinese State Councilor Yang that efforts were on towards making the elections free, fair and fear-free through talks and cooperation, and towards bringing all the political parties on board, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Extending gratitude for the cooperation China has provided to Nepal's socio-economic development as well as for the peace process and the Constituent Assembly election, he expressed the belief that this cooperation would be continued in future also. In the meeting, the two leaders discussed topics of mutual interests and welfare as well as the political process and the Constituent Assembly elections. State Councilor Yang said that China wanted to see Nepal develop through establishment of peace and that it welcomed the government's decision to hold the election in coming November. He also expressed China's willingness to extend full support for the election, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release issued at the end of the meeting. The Chinese State Councilor said that China was ready to support Nepal for its socio-economic development. He also expressed sympathies, on behalf the government and the people of China, on the loss of life and property due to recent floods in the Mid-west and the Far-west regions. nnnn
