HLPC MEETS AGAIN SUNDAY TO ATTEMPT RESOLUTION OF DIFFERENCES Kathmandu, 9 June; The high-level political committee (HLPC) of three parties and Madesh Morcha meets again Sunday afternoon to attempt another resolution of differences on proposed election laws to be promulgated by government to conduct the second constituent assembly elections. Differences couldn’t be settled Saturday at meeting between Chairman Khil Raj Regmi and leaders of UCPN Maoist, NC, UML and Madesh Morcha. The HLPC leaders met separately to settle differences with suggestions for the government by Sunday as the requested of the government chief. The meeting was inconclusive. Government is waiting for resolution of differences before announcing formal election date proposed by election commission 14 November immediately after bhai tika. Leaders of parties that pushed regmi’s appointment blame Regmi government for delay in announcing election date even as parties of the HLPC differ on laws need for a vote. Besides, 33 parties oppose elections and are on a drive to disrupt a drive to distribute citizenship certificates and upgrade a voters’ list. Parties differ on a threshold to attempt limit size the number of parties, whether persons with criminal record should be allowed to contest elections and other isses. They are agreed on the size of a 491-member constituent assembly. Nnnn MAOIST CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEETS Kathmandu, 9 June: A UCPN Maoist central committee meets Friday ahead of constituent assembly elections to discuss a political report of Chairman Prachanda. The Prachanda has to fill vacancies in the central committee following a 7th party general convention in Hetauda and distribute responsibilities for leaders. Nnnn . FORMER PM DEUBA LEAVES FOR DELHI SUNDAY Kathmandu, 9 June: Former Prime Minister and senior NC leader Sher Bahadur Deuba leaves for New Delhi Sunday for top-level discussions with Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid. He has been invited by the Indian government, like Maoist Chairman Prachanda before him. Deuba will be accompanied by wife Dr. Arju Deuba and aide Bimalendra Nidhi, a former part general secretary. India has invioted leaders of political party leaders ahead of proposed constituent assembly elections to discuss national issues in Nepal. Nnnn LOAD-SHEDDING REDUCED TO 42 HOURS A WEEK FROM SUNDAY’ Kathmandu, 0 June; Load-shedding is being reduced to 42-hours a week from Sunday with the approach of the monsoon and good pre-monsoon showers. Reduces power outage will give people some relief. nnnn
