MAJOR POLITICAL PARTIES TO MEET ELECTION CHIEF CHARGING HIM OF MAKING POLITICAL STATEMENT UPDATE Kathmandu, 26 June:: The High Level Political Committee(HLPC) has expressed serious concern over the statement delivered by Chief Election Commissioner and on the issue of transfer of Secretary at the Election Commission (EC), RSS reports.. HLPC meeting held Wednesday at its Secretariat at New Baneshwor, decided that the senior leaders of the political parties would meet the representatives of the EC regarding these issues. Talking to journalists after the meeting, General Secretary of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Democratic), Jitendra Dev, said it has been learnt that the Secretary at the EC has been changed and that political statement was made by the EC Chief. The senior leaders of the four major political forces will inquire about the contemporary issues with the EC, study the situation to hold talks with the agitating political parties and make suggestions to maintain the dignity of the constitutional commission. He said, "The senior leaders would meet the Chief of the EC and hold talks regarding his latest statements that are political in nature." The committee would meet the EC representatives so as to take them into confidence that the political parties were committed to hold the second Constituent Assembly (CA) election in the slated time (November 19). The HLPC has decided to suggest the EC representatives to forward its activities in an effective way to bring democracy back on track, said leader Dev. Similarly, Vice-chairman of the Unified CPN (Maoist), Narayan Kaji Shrestha, said if there are any problems in focusing on election, they should be reported to the political parties rather than make unnecessary speeches. The EC´s attention should be drawn in this regard, he added. Likewise, UML leader Raghuji Panta, said the leaders have expressed commitment to move ahead the election process in today´s meeting. He said the senior leaders had made briefings of the talks with the political parties that are reluctant to join the election process and concluded that the talks with the agitating political parties was positive. The meeting also decided to continue talks with the agitating political parties. "Majority of the agitating political parties are for CA election, it is positive in itself, said UML leader Panta. "The political parties would acquire information with EC regarding the preparation of the election," he added. The four political parties also had solidarity to move ahead on the basis of the 25-point obstacle removing order of the President, and 11-point agreement signed between the political parties ahead of the formation of the current election government, said Panta. Chairman of the Unified CPN (Maoist), Pushpa Kamal Dahal, President of the Nepali Congress, Sushil Koirala, and Chairman of the CPN (UML) Jhala Nath Khanal, including other leaders had attended the meeting chaired by HLPC Coordinator and Chairman of UDMF, Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar. nnnn
