SPECIAL BENCH TO DECIDE ON LEGALITY ON CHAIRMAN REGMI APPOINTMENT Kathmandu, 20 June: A special nine-member bench of the supreme court will conduct a final hearing on the legality of the appointment of Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi as the chairman of the Interim Election Council through a presidential decree 4 July.. Regmi continues to retain the post of chief justice. Acting Chief Justice Damodar Prasad Sharma , Justices Ram Kumar Prasad Shah, Girish Chandra Lal, Sushila Karki, Prakash Osti, Baidhyanath Upadhayay, Tarkaraj Bhatta, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki and Bharat Bahadur Karki are members of the special bench. The special bench directed the apex court administration to produce all the cases related on the appointment of the chief justice, including the the presidential decree to remove the constitutional hurdles to appoint Regmi. A bench was conducting a hearing Thursday on writs filed by by advocates Om Prakash Aryal and Bharat Mani Jangum arguing Regmi’s appointment was unconstitutional. Chairman Regmi defended his appointment as government chief in an address to the nation earlier this month.
