NO GOING BACK ON MARCH ACCORD SAYS NC
Himalayan Times reports..
“If the 11-point agreement of March 13 and the 25-point presidential decree are diluted, Nepali Congress will disassociate itself from the pact. We cannot accept whatever UCPN-M chief Dahal says in his unreliable manner,” said NC president Sushil Koirala inaugurating a three-day training for district level leaders at the party headquarters in Sanepa.
Accusing the UCPN-Maoist of trying to backtrack from the March 13 agreement and increase the number of CA members to 601 from 491, Koirala said the NC would never accept changes in the fundamentals of the March 13 agreement. He criticised Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal of deciding one thing but doing something quite contrary.
Koirala instructed NC district leaders to create a storm of pressure against those who wanted to disrupt the November 19 polls. “We will make people boycott those who are against the polls and expose them,” Koirala said. Stating that the March 13 arrangement was reached with full consideration, Koirala said it could not be changed to serve anyone’s interest.
The NC boss said that the four major political forces did not make any syndicate and that the Baidhya-led Maoists had refused to join the process although the four forces made continuous attempts to bring them on to the process. All foreign forces including India, China, US, UK and European Union wanted early elections in Nepal, Koirala said refuting the allegation that foreign forces were conspiring against elections.
UCPN-M Spokesman Agni Sapkota today told the press his party was ready to dissolve the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) if the agitating parties including CPN-M joined the polls. He said the only way to end the transition phase was through election as that would safeguard the achievements of the people’s movement. He said the agitating parties were not against election but were dissatisfied with the process. On alliance between CPN-M and royalists Sapkota said revival of monarchy was impossible.
