NO COMPROMISE ON FREE FAIR POLLS SAYS CHAIRMAN REGMI

Kathmandu, 13 July: Interim Election Council (IEC) Chairman Khil Raj Regmi has said that the government would not make any compromise on holding the forthcoming Constituent Assembly election in a free, fair and peaceful manner, RSS reports..

Inaugurating the Seventh Annual General Meeting of the Nepal Health Service Cooperatives Limited and the Manmohan Memorial Medical College and Teaching Hospital operated by it at a function here on Saturday, Chairman Regmi stated that the government has moved forward fully prepared for conducting the elections in a peaceful environment.

"Priority has been given to all the legal and managerial works as a peaceful environment is needed for ensuring the fairness and impartiality of the election; the government shall adopt appropriate measures with zero tolerance for maintaining peace and security of the polls," he said.

He made it clear that there was no any other priority for the government except than making the CA election successful for writing a constitution as the country would see social, economic and cultural development only after the writing of the constitution.

With the government having completed most of the basic works related to the election at present, the next job is that of the political parties filing nominations, carrying out election campaign and ensuring that voting takes place in a peaceful environment on the designated date, and since all the political parties, leaders, cadres and voters have an important role to play in that regard, I specially urge to fulfill a cooperative role for that, Chairman Regmi said.

He stressed that the present cooperative practice should identify the productive and service-oriented sectors and increase investment in these sectors. He added that the hospital operated by the Nepal Health Service cooperative Limited was an example of that.

The government should allocate special budget for the development and upscale of Manmohan Memorial Medical College being operated through cooperative medium, said College Patron Bharat Mohan Adhikari.

National Cooperatives Association Chairperson Keshab Badal stressed that the government should lay emphasis on the urgency of making the cooperatives productive and enabling environment for investment in cooperatives.

Chairperson of Nepal Health Service Cooperative Organization Limited Rajendra Prasad Pandey said the hospital will be developed to provide specialized service by equipping it with 900 beds in coming year.

The cooperative, established in 2062 BS, has operated the hospital at Kathmandu Metropolis-15, Swoyambhu. The organization is also running a 100-bed Manmohan Memorial Community Hospital at Thamel in Kathmandu and an eastern regional community hospital in memory of Adhikari in Jhapa.
