COMPULSORY DRESS CODE FOR PLUS TWO STUDENTS

Kathmandu, 18 Aug.: The Higher School Education Board (HSEB) is tightening the screw on the compliance of dress code for all plus two students, RSS reports.

Acting on a complaint on Kathmandu-based Saint Xaviers College's non-compliance on dress code for students, the HSEB monitoring committee has made it mandatory.

The committee meeting held on Friday made the uniform compulsory for all plus two students, said member-secretary of the monitoring committee Dambar Kumar Batas.

BOLT REGISTERS A SPRINT DOUBLE

Kathmandu, 18 Aug.:Jamaica's Usain Bolt completed yet another crushing sprint double today when he roared to his third successive world 200 metres title in the year's fastest time of 19.66 seconds, Reuters reports from Moscow..

The world record holder‚ who completed the sprint double twice at the Olympics and also in the 2009 world championships‚ was always in command and even eased up over the last few strides.

Compatriot Warren Weir took silver in a personal best 19.79‚ while Curtis Mitchell of the US took bronze in 20.04.

On Friday‚ it was doubles all round as Britain’s master of distance running Mo Farah and Jamaican sprint queen Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won their second gold medals of the world championships.

But Fraser-Pryce’s eagerly-anticipated showdown with three-time champion Allyson Felix was cut short when the elegant American pulled up on the bend and fell to the track after tearing her right hamstring in a dramatic 200 metres final. There were also two golds for the hosts as hammer thrower Tatyana Lysenko and long jumper Aleksandr Menkov‚ driven on by a raucous crowd‚ produced world-leading distances for victory.

Amid the ecstasy of victory‚ the agony was also clear to see as a distraught Felix‚ aiming for a record ninth world gold‚ was carried out of the stadium by her brother Wes at the same time a beaming Fraser-Pryce danced to Bob Marley’s ‘One Love’ on her lap of honour.

The best starter in the business‚ Fraser-Pryce blasted out of the blocks and stormed round the bend as Felix crumpled. The Jamaican streaked to victory in 22.17s to become the first woman to do the sprint double at the worlds since Katrin Krabbe in 1991.

Farah made certain his name would be included in the pantheon of distance greats by retaining his 5‚000m title‚ six days after winning the 10‚000m. Farah became only the second man after Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele to hold Olympic and world distance double simultaneously.

Usually overshadowed by the track action‚ it was the field events that captivated a partisan crowd‚ who reserved the biggest cheers of the night for Lysenko and Menkov. Lysenko’s hammer victory got the Russian flags waving as the Olympic champion set a championship record with a monster throw of 78.80 metres.

Next came Menkov‚ who broke the Russian long jump record twice on the way to winning with 8.56m in a final. Four-time world champion Dwight Phillips of the US had postponed his retirement in a bid for one final golden moment but was 11th with 7.88.

Germany’s David Storl retained his world shot put title in controversial circumstances when his winning throw of 21.73m‚ originally ruled a foul‚ was allowed after consulting a photographer’s camera. Normal service had resumed for the US with the men’s 4x400 team winning gold in 2:58.71.
