BAN ON CHICKEN MEAT LIFTED

Kthmandu, 8 Aug.:The Constituency Delimitation Commission (CDC) on Thursday submitted its report to the government, suggesting to continue the earlier 240 electoral constitutes as per first-past-the-post system, RSS reports..

After the commission could forge a common understanding on the delimitation of the constituencies, it submitted its report without making any change to the existing constituencies.

Talking to THT Online, CDC member Netra Dhital said that the CDC enacted the 240 seats citing constitutional and legal complexities to make any changes.

Dhital, however, did not divulge any information about the report, citing that the Cabinet will make public the report.

The CDC even failed to any decision apropos to the 35 first-past-the-post election constituencies which it can add or reduce. In the 2008 Constituent Assembly elections, 35 seats were added.

The Article 154 (8) of the Interim Constitution prohibits reduction of 205 constituencies that existed in 1999, but the Article 63 (3) says Madhes will have constituencies in proportion to its percentage of population.

Earlier on June 13, the government had formed the CDC after announcing November 19 as poll date
