BHAIRAHAWA SEZ BEING OPERATED
Kathmandu, 18 Aug.; The government has been making preparations to bring the Special Economic Zone (SEZ), constructed in Bhairahawa, into operation soon. The Special Economic Zone was constructed with an objective of increasing
export trade, RSS reports..
Talking to RSS, Secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Krishna Gyawali, said that construction works started five years ago with an objective of import substitution as well as to reduce trade deficit and to promote economic growth by creating opportunity of employment have been completed.

Stating that Executive Director of the committee has been already appointed with issuance of the Constitution of Special Economic Zone Development Committee Orders 2069 BS and all the obstructed works related to SEZ have been forwarded in an expedited manner, Gyawali said preparations were underway to bring Special Economic Zone Operation Ordinance.

A taskforce under the coordination of Executive Director of the Committee, Shankarman Shrestha, has been engaged to give final shape to a draft of the SEZ Operation Procedure.

It is expected that opportunity of employment as well as economic activities would be increased after the operation of the first Special Economic Zone of the country. The SEZ is spread on 50 bighas of area.

Another Special Economic Zone is also being constructed at the border area on 833 bighas of land owned by the Birgunj Sugar Mill.

Feasibility studies for the construction of SEZ in Dhangadhi, Jumla, Panchkhal of Kavre, Biratnagar and Kapilvastu have been completed while feasibility studies at Gorkha, Rautahat, Dhanusha and Siraha are underway, according to the Committee.
