UPDATE VOTER REGISTRATION BEGINS FOR SECOND TIME

Kathmandu, 17Aug..  The special programme for collection of biometric voters´ namelist has resumed across the country from Saturday, RSS reports..

Spokesperson of the Election Commission (EC) Bir Bahadur Rai said that the EC has given a week-long additional period for registering the name in the biometric voters´ list to those voters who missed the chance earlier.

The EC has re-opened voter registration till August 23 without affecting the timetable of the November 19 CA elections. Earlier, the EC had collected the voters´ names by mid-July. The EC is preparing to publish the final namelist of the voters on September 7.

Meanwhile, members of the former royal family have registered their name by visiting the Kathmandu District Election Office, Babarmahal, today.

Puja Shah, Sitashma Shah and Dilasha Shah, daughters of ex-prince Dhirendra Shah, registered their namelist, according to Chief of Office Shambhu Chalise.

KOIRALA CALLS FOR NC VICTORY IN POLLS

Kathmandu,  17 Aug  Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has said those boycotting the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) elections will be boycotted by the society, RSS reports..

Taking part in an interaction programme on BP´s ideologies and Nepali Congress organised by BP Chintan Pratisthan, Solukhumbu on the eve of centenary birth anniversary of the late BP Koirala Saturday, party President Koirala expressed his hope that opposing parties including the CPN-Maoist would finally join the election.

"Election is the backbone for democracy", he said, underlining the need of holding the election on the announced date.

Nationality, democracy and development would weaken if the Congress loses its performance, he claimed and stressed that party´s victory in the upcoming election was essential to give an outlet to the nation.

Also speaking at the programme, party central member Shekhar Koirala said nationality would become stronger if democratic constitution was drafted on time.

Another leader Bal Bahadur KC said the election was essential to bring the country´s politics on track.

Organisation´s central chairman Haribol Bhattarai, party central members Dhanraj Gurung and noted journalist Purushottam Dahal talked about BP´s ideologies and principles.
