UN chopper engineer commits suicide

Kathmandu, 10 March: Russian national and helicopter engineer Evegeny Alexandrov, 50, engineer working with the UNMIN apparently killed himself Saturday in a rented apartment in Nepal’s capital after three colleagues died in a crash five days earlier.
Ten passengers and crew members were killed in a crash Monday; two Russians and one Belrussian—crew members of the Russian helicopter were killed.
A suicide none recovered from the apartment which they shared read," Friends have left his world which is like this."

15 Tibetan refugees arrested in march to Chinese embassy

Kathmandu, 10 March: Police Tuesday lobbed a teargas shell and dispersed a group of 2,000 Tibetan refugees trying to march to the Chinese embassy demanding independence for their homeland.
Police cordoned off the embassy to stop the refugees from approaching the embassy.
Eyewitnesses said police and refugees clashed
Tibetans marched to the embassy from Baudhanath where has a big refugee community.
Fifteen of 103 refugees marchers were released later in the evening Tuesday, official state –owned Radio Nepal said quoting police.
China has asked Nepal government to curb what it called anti-Tibet activities of Tibetans and other foreigners in Nepal.
Tibetans marched to Chinese embassies elsewhere in the world demanding independence, reports said Monday.

Nepal rejects UN involvement in terai separatist demands

Kathmandu, 10 March: Peace Minister Ram Chandra Paudel has rejected UN mediation to discuss separatist demands of groups in the terai bordering India.
Groups using India as a base said they are ready to discuss their demands with UN mediation.
“They say t hey want talks through the UN. Government wants direct talks with them,” Paudel said.
India is also wary of UN involvement in what New Delhi considers its backyard—a feeling resented by Nepalis.
Amid Indian protests, Matthew Kahane, UNDP country representative was recalled in late 2007 for suggesting India could help ease humanitarian work in Nepal by using its influence with exiled Nepalese elements in India.
