Kathmandu, 11 April: An early trend shows Nepali Congress and Maoists are heading towards smashing the traditional CPN-UML hold on the Valley.
Maoists are showing a strong showing in other parts of the country as well.
CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal is trailing CPN (Maoist ) candidate Jhakku Subedi in Kathmandu-2.
Chairman Prachanda is also leading in Kathmandu-10, Congress is leading in two other constituencies.
Prakash Man Singh has already been elected from Kathmandu-1 on a Congress ticket.
In Lalitpur, Maoists are leading in one constituency while Congress is leading vote-counting in another constituency.
Alleged massive booth capture by Congress in 16 booths, CPN-UML has enforced a strike in Siraha and demanded a re-poll.
Curfew has been slapped at a town in Dhading, after Congress followed by CPN (Maoist) captured and burnt ballot boxes.
CPN-UML is losing its traditional hold on constituencies in the Valley where Congress and Maoists have made strong inroads.
US WELCOME
The United States in a statement asked the election result be respected.
“Overwhelmingly across the country men and women were able to cast their ballots in a peaceful and orderly way. This represents an historic achievement and is a tribute to the courage of the Nepali people and the conduct of the Election Commission.
“Nepal has taken a huge step forward on the path of peace and democracy. In the days and weeks to come as the votes are counted, we urge patience and respect for the results,” the statement said.
