Meaningful democracy a dream
By Bhola B Rana
Kathmandu, 2 April: Former US President Jimmy Carter will arrive 7 April to observe the controversial 10 April constituent assembly elections.
“As Nepal is gearing up for the historic CA polls, the world is looking on with consternation at the increasing incidents of violence and rights abuses.
“Establishment of meaningful democracy will remain a mare’s nest if the current rate of murders, abductions, intimidation and violation of law and order continues unabated.
“Apparently, the international community, which has been helping Nepal’s peaceful transition process, has little clue about what is going on in the Himalayan country.
“Aspirations of Nepalis are unlikely to be fulfilled unless the political leaders uphold the ethos of democracy,” New Zealand national Norman Tucker said in letters to two major English language daily newspapers Wednesday.
