Demand for constitution amendment aimed against Maoists :Kiran

By Bhola B Rana

Kathmandu, 14 may: Senior Maoist leader Mohan Baidya ‘Kiran’ said a demand by rival parties to amend the constitution to topple a government through a simple majority in aimed against Maoists who won’t accept the proposal.
Baidya said CPN (Maoist) won’t accept an amendment proposal.
A two-third majority is needed to topple an incumbent government but Baidya said his party will stay in the opposition if any other party or coalition can muster such a majority.
A hung assembly emerged after the 10 April CA election.
Installation of a Maoist government without amendment, will put CPN (Maoist) firmly in Singha Durbar until parliamentary election after a new constitution is drafted possibly in 30 months.
A war of words has started between Maoists and Congress leaders after Dr Baburam Bhattarai charged Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala wasn’t resigning to make way for a Maoist-led government in which Congress and CPN-UML won’t join.
The second and third largest parties presented seven pre-conditions including dissolution of PLA and YCL.
In reply, Koirala Wednesday asked ‘responsible’ leaders not to make ‘irresponsible’ comments saying such comments could hamper the peace process during a tricky transition.
