Maoist-led govt. debars US govt. investment (BREAKING NEWS)

Kathmandu, 16 Nov: Government Sunday stopped US government investment in a project ‘not approved by the government’ which is led by Maoists, Finance Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai said Sunday.
The government stopped the investment not approved by it, Dr Bhattarai said, according to Radio Nepal.
The finance minister said all foreign-aided projects in Nepal must be approved by the government.
The government action has come at a time when questions were being asked whether Washington will finance a a Maoist-led government in Nepal with US officials saying it will continue to fund projects in Nepal to help the ‘people’.
The issue of disbursement of foreign assistance without local government is an old issue.
Successive governments from the panchayat era have unsuccessfully attempted to curb such unauthorized spending demanding accountability and approval of local government.
The move of the government has come at a time when Maoists are depending heavily on foreign investment in its ambitious development projects for the fiscal year 2008/09.

Girija against compensation by government of Maoist victims

Kathmandu, 16 Nov: In continuing hard-ling approach to the Maoist government, Nepali Congress President Girij Prasad Koirala Sunday told reporters in Birgunj the main opposition is against government compensation for assets seized by Maoists.
Prime Minister Prachanda proposed government compensation last week to Maoist victims to meet Congress demands for the return of seized assets as a pre-condition for cooperation with Maoist administration.
Opposition to government compensation to Maoist victims has come from other quarters as well.
Koirala said his party isn’t conspiring to bring down the government which will fall because of its own reasons.
Koiirala again repeated his previous charge Maoists had abandoned a policy of consensus triggering confrontational politics.
He reiterated his and party’s opposition to integration of PLA with Nepal Army.

Vice-chairman election 28 Nov.

Kathmandu, 16 Nov: Election for the vice-chairman of constituent assembly (CA) will beheld 28 November, an announcement of parliament said Sunday.
Terai Madesh Loktantrik Party (TMLP) claimed the position saying candidates o four biggest had been elected president, vice-president, prime minister and chairman of CA.

But there has been no agreement on the TMLP demand.
The CA Sunday approved business schedule to draft a constitution in the next 18 months.

Annual report of auditor general presented

Kathmandu, 16 Nov: The annual report of the auditor general for government spending in the fiscal year 2063/64 was presented to president Dr Ram Baran Yadav Sunday.
Irregularities of Rs 10 billion in the period have been highlighted.
The biggest irregularities have been reported in the finance and physical planning ministries in that order.
