Nepali Congress calls all-party meet

Kathmandu, 9 Feb: One day after main opposition Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala said an alternative to the Maoist-led government is being sought, the party has called an all- party meeting to discuss the working of government Monday.
“A roundtable conference of parties to be held soon will make efforts for a new coalition,” Koirala said.
At Monday’s meeting the Nepali Congress will discuss convening a special session of parliament amid charges the Prachanda government was by-passing the legislature and issuing ordinances on the establishment of truth and forced disappearances.

Nepal Army fills in vacancies despite orders to stop

Kathmandu, 9 Feb: Defying orders of the defence ministry, Nepal Army Sunday announced results on examinations to fill in 2,800 vacancies.
A notice was posted at Chauni.
The recruits were be sent for nine-month training after they are handed appointment letters.
Defence MiInister Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal warned action will be taken against Army Chief Gen Rukmangud Katawal if he defied orders to stop recruitment.
Major parties, including main opposition Nepali Congress, have denied UNMIN charge recruitment to fill in vacancies were was against a peace treaty with Maoists.
The previous Girija Prasad Koirala regime in which Maoists were coalition partner had twice continued with the recruitment after signing the peace agreement.
Maoists have threatened to start recruitment as well in the PLA.
Nearly 19,000 combatants are now in 28 camps and cantonments under UNMIN supervision.
The army move will increase the divide between the defence minister and the army chief.
Badal had said he will act against Gen Katawal if order to stop recruitment was defied.
The Maoist defence minister said the army must obey orders of an elected civilian government.

Security team visiting Pyuthan Monday


Kathmandu, 9 Feb: A security teamed by Home Secretary Gobinda Kusum
Is flying for Pyuthan Monday after an group attacked a police post in the west Nepal district and decamped with weapons and communication set killing one policeman.
A massive search has been launched for attackers.
The security team is leaving for Pyuthan after Prime Minister Prachanda Sunday ordered security chiefs to launch a search for attackers.

Seven parties agree not to shift district headquarters

Kathmandu, 9 Feb: Seven parties, including main opposition Nepali Congress, agreed Sunday not to shift district headquarters.
Demonstrations have been held for and against a government decision to establish integrated service centers in 21 districts.
The move was seen by some parties to shift district headquarters.

Nepal in semi-finals of ACC U-17 cricket tournament

Kathmandu, 9 Feb: Nepal entered semi-finals of the ACC U-17 cricket tournament by beating Singapore by four wickets Sunday in the Nepalese capital.
By defeating Singapore, Nepal won all three matches in group A in league.
Nepal now has to beat UAE to enter the finals.
Nepal scored 140 runs in 31.3 overs while Singapore 139 runs for nine wickets in 40 overs.
