Maoist meet to discuss deadlock
Kathmandu, 2 Oct: Maoist standing committee meets later Friday to discuss current political issues, preparations for a general convention, demand for a civilian supremacy and other issues amid threat to launch a second phase of an ongoing protest.
Maoists have threatened to launch second phase of their movement if there’s no outlet to the four-month political impasse.
Maoists, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML are meeting at five in the afternoon Friday to discuss a common motion in parliament to end the deadlock.
There’s still no agreement on a common motion which Maoists said should mention what they call the unconstitutional act of the president to retain dismissed Army Chief Gen Rukmangud Katawal.
Congress and CPN-UML oppose the mention of the word unconstitutional in the motion arguing the president in ceremonial.
President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, who should be ceremonial, acted at the request of 18 political parties.
Pradip Geywali of CPN-UML is preparing the common motion
