Prime Minister Nepal holds discussions with the president

Kathmandu, 2 Feb.: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal Tuesday morning held unscheduled consultations with President Dr Ram BaranYadav.
The consultations came amid demands in a section of the Nepali Congress for the ouster of the government led UML and its replacement by another coalition led by Nepali Congress (NC).
The NC demand has split the second largest party in the party besides threatening the survival of the Nepal government.
Maoists have been demanding the ouster of the Nepal government saying a constitution can’t be promulgated by the 28 May deadline with the continuity of the incumbent government.

Defence minister meets Indian foreign minister SM Krishna

Kathmandu, 2 Feb.: Defence Minister Bidya Bhandari Monday held discussions with Indian Foreign Minister SM Krishna in New Delhi.
She is in the Indian capital for medical treatment,
Krishna last month concluded a Nepal visit.

Kathmandu, 2 Feb.: Tourist arrivals surged 18.8 percent in January compared to the same month the previous year, Tourism Ministry officials.
Altogether 26,071 tourists visited Nepal in the first month of 2010.
Arrivals from Europe went up 34.9 percent.
Tourist arrivals recorded positive growth since June 2009.

30MW electricity imported from India

Kathmandu, 2 Feb.: Nepal since Monday began importing an
additional 30MW electricity through Gandak Ramnagar and
Kataiya as load-shedding was extended for 11 hours every day.
Meanwhile, government has decided to ban import of inverters.
Supply ministry Monday wrote to the commerce ministry to ban
imports.
Inverters, the supply ministry said, drain power during recharge.

Nepal collects three more bronzes in Dhaka

Kathmandu, 2 Feb.: Nepal Monday collected three more bronzes in
the 11th South Asian Games in Dhaka taking its medal tally to six bronzes.
Debu Thapa, who was injured in a elevator crash on the opening day
collected a medal in the minus 63kg group.
Rajan Joshi bagged a medal in the 100 km weight category and
Radha Debi Rai collected a bronze in the 52kg category.
Nepal is participating Tuesday in 10 disciplines on the fifth day of the sports jamboree.
