Jamin Shah murder; cases filed against five Nepalis, including policemen

Kathmandu, 12 March: Government Thursday filed cases at the Kathmandu district court against DSP Jagdish Chand, Shree Krishna Paudel, Sub-inspector Prakash Chetri, Kishore Khadka and Laxman Dhamala for alleged involvement in the murder of media tycoon Jamin Shah.
Indian criminal elements penetrated Nepal Police and with the assistance of some policemen shot dead Shah.
Sub-inspector Chetri diodn;t inform police of the plans to eliminate Shah.
He helped in the escape of the gunmen as well.
Chetri was deployed to liaise security with the US embassy for the security of American diplomats.

CPN (United) merging with UCPN (Maoist)

Kathmandu, 12 March: CPN (United) Nabaran Subedi group is merging with UCPN (Maoist) this week.
Former assistant minister and Nepali Congress central committee member Hari Shanker Pariyar Thursday joined the main opposition Maoists.
He was among nine persons who defected to Maoists from other parties.

Terai stir by two parties

Kathmandu, 12 March: MJFN and Trarus Thursday have announced a stirs in the terai saying government renegaded on promises signed with the government.
MJFN will close down the terai for two consecutive days from 8 April.
Five Tharu organizations announced a Tharuhat terai strike 14 March.

Kathmandu, 12 March: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav Thursday promulgated the financial ordinance (first amendment) to enable government to increase
The government sent the ordinance to the president 10 March.
The government is contemplating hiking customs duty on gold and luxury good while presenting a supplementary budget.

Consumer price index soars 12 percent

Kathmandu, 12 March: Consumer price index soared to 12 percent in the seventh month of the current fiscal year ending mid-February compared to 11.8 percent the previous month, Nepal Rashtra Bank said.
The consumer price index the same month the previous year was 13.7percent.
The index soared because of price increases of food, beverages, sugar and sugar related goods.
Spice, pulse, meat, fish eggs, vegetables and fruits prices also jumped.
Price index rose 13 percent in the hills, 12.3 percent in the terai and 10.8 percent in the Valley.

Share trading starts from Narayanghad as well

Kathmandu, 12 March: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Thursday started share trading from Narayanghad after Pokhara and Biratnagar.
Trading was previously restricted only in the capital.
More investors will now have access to the share market.

Nepal Telecom profit

Kathmandu, 12 March: Nepal Telecom registered a Rs 5, 5578.2 million net profit after tax in the second quarter of the current financial year ending mid-January.
The company is one of the few state enterprises earning a hefty profit.
Some shares of the company have been sold to the public.

Load-shedding increased one hour

Kathmandu, 12 March: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) increased daily load-shedding by one hour Thursday.
There’ll now be a daily 12-hour outage.

ADB assistance

Kathmandu, 12 March: Asian Development Bank (ADB) Thursday extended $65million loan and $ 4 million grant for an energy access and efficiency improvement project.
The money will fund the Middle Marshyangdhi-Damauli-Marshyangdhi transmission line, construction of second circuit of Buwal-Kohalpur transmission line and construction and expansion of Chapali and Matatirtha grid sub-station.
The grant and loan will also finance construction of capacitor banks and
construction of primary distribution sub-stations and switching stations.
Two small-scale hydropower plants will be rehabilitated, one million CLF will be distributed, 1,000 solar-wind streetlights will be installed alonf with expert services to Nepal Electricity Authority.
The project will also support government’s long-term vision to provide universal coverage using grid-based and off-grid supplies by 2027.

Nepal in the semi-finals

Kathmandu, 12 March: Nepal Thursday qualified for the semi-final of the ACC U-16 Elite cup with a 85-run victory over Bahrain.
Nepal scored 207 for seven wickets while restricting Bahrain to 121 runs for nine wickets in 40 overs.
