Diarrhea outbreak in far-West

Kathmandu, 13 April: An outbreak of diarrhea in the peak summer season has claimed at three lives in Dailekh and Dang, local health officials said.
Two dies and 12 others have fallen sick at two villages in Dalekh bordering Jajarkot.
One person died at Loharpan in Dang four days ago.

YCL leader, bodyguard freed

Kathmandu, 13 April: Kul Prasad KC and his bodyguard were freed Tuesday in the presence of UNMIN official by Kathmandu district police.
They were arrested Monday night in the capital with a pistol certified by UNMIN in Chabahil.
The weapon was handed over to UNMIN.
Three years after the peace process top Maoist leaders still move around with weapons certified by UNMIN.
Chairman Prachanda is given protection by government.
Then Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala gave the weapons facility to top Maoist leaders—a facility not available for other party leaders.

India expressed deep interest

Kathmandu, 13 April: Indian Ambassador Rakesh Sood Tuesday expressed ‘deep interest’ with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal in developments leading to the cancellation of an agreement with an Indian security printing press to print machine readable passports (MRPs) for Nepal.
Government awarded the contract even as India didn’t participate in an international bidding process.
A secret Indian embassy letter to government and leaked to the press claimed the printing of MRPs was a security concern of India which shares a 17,000 km open border with Nepal.

Govt. won’t fall just because Maoists shout on streets: KP Sharma Oli

Kathmandu 13 April: UML leader KP Sharma Oli saidl Tuesday the government won’t fall just because Maoists shou8t on the streets’.
He told this to reporters in Biratnagar Tuesday.
He asked the main opposition to prove its majority in parliament to topple the government of beleaguered Madhav Kumar Nepal government.
Opposes a move from a section in the party which has demanded the resignation to form a national government with Maoists who decided Monday to topple the government through parliament and street protests and dialogue with other parties.
The Maoist politburo will announced detailed protests programmes Wednesday.

Defence minister appears before parliament

Kathmandu, 13 April: Defence Minister Bidya told lawmakers in parliament Tuesday government will take action against guilty after receiving a report from a committee formed to probe the killing of three Dalit women at the Bardia National Park.
Nepal Army says those killed were poachers.
National Human Rights Commission those shot dead by army weren’t poachers.
Lawmakers Tuesday demanded against guilty for the dead and injured.

Kathmandu, 13 April: Rashtriya Janasakti Party lawmaker and second ranking leader of the party Dr Prakash Chandra Lohini suggested Tuesday India’s intention was to collect data on Nepali citizens by securing a contract to print machine readable passports (MRPs).
“If the intention was not to collect data of Nepali citizens, why did India write its security was concern was attached?
“The letter was very unnatural; diplomatic language is not like that.
When a foreign company gets a contract by print Nepali MRPs, its concern could be terrorists could get their hands on Nepali passports through some means, through thee companies,” Lohani told Naharik.

One starvation reported from Darchula

Kathmandu. 13 April: Suman Singh Tharke, 25, died Sunday of starvation because of had no money to buy food, Gorkhapatra reports from Darchula.
He died at Khandeshwari VDC ward no. 3 Ghumti.
He left behind parents, two children and two wives.

Another revelation Maoists preparing for final assault

Kathmandu, 13 April: The UCPN-Maoists has started training its cadres—including PLA combatants and YCL activists—in the rural areas of eastern terai to seize power though urban revolution, The Himalayan Times reports from Itahari.
A leader of the Maoist-affiliated Kochila State Committee revealed that the party is providing military training to its cadres in a manner not very different before the people’s war was launched fourteen years ago in 1996.
Requesting anonymity, the leader said that nearly 15 thousand Maoist cadres from Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari districts had recently received military training in Yangshila of Morang.
He also informed that the participants in the training program had been directed to be on standby for the last phase of the revolution.
