No breakthrough to end political deadlock

Kathmandu, 19 May: With only nine days remaining to end a prolonged political deadlock, there’s still no agreement between major parties to promulgate a constitution to institutionalize a declared republic by 28 May.
Terai parties with 81 members in the 601-member constituent assembly (CA)’/parliament agreed the two-year mandate of the assembly that also ends 28 May should be extended.
“Maoists have to agree to extend the tenure even at the last moment, There’s no alternative,” said deputy Prime Minister and MJFL Chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachedhar after a meeting of the regional parties.
