MJFL stakes claim to lead govt.; other details

By Bhola B Rana

Kathmandu, 17 June: Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of MJFL Bijaya Kumar Gachedhar threatened Thursday his party will play and ‘interventionist’ role and form a government with the help of other ‘Madesh and small parties’.
He said this after returning from New Delhi following eye surgery and consultations with Indian leaders, including Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee—the point man of the Indian government during and after political changes in Nepal.
“We’ll play an interventionist role and form a government with the support of other Madesh and small parties,” he told reporters at the TIA.
Gachedhar said the political situation remained static in the nine days he was away in India.
Gachedhar laid claim to lead a government amid competing claims from Maoists and NC.
Embattled Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal held discussions with his UML party leaders Thursday amid suggestions from UML and NC party leaders that he’s preparing to quit soon.
The five-year transition, after the toppling of the 238-year-old monarchy, has run into rough weather.
Meanwhile, Maoist Chairman Prachanda suggested Thursday there can be an outlet to the deadlock in 10 hours not 10 days without foreign intervention.
“If the right to decide should be with three parties but can’t say where it is. I can’t guarantee an outlet,” he told youth lawmakers who presented a 10-day ultimatum to end the deadlock.
Maoist youth legislators weren’t present.
Debate on Prachanda’s political report continued Thursday with eight standing committee members presenting their views.
Office bearers, including Vice-chairmen Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Mohan Baidya Kiran and General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal, presented their views Wednesday.
Politburo members will address the meet Friday.
Present government is a hurdle to a solution , Party Spokesman Dinanath Sharma said.
