Renewed govt. minister charge against UNMIN

Kathmandu, 6 June: Peace Minister Rakam Chemjung Sunday charged UNMIN for ‘laxity’ in the management of PLA fighters in 28 cantonments and satellite camps under its observation.
Under international pressure, government last month extended its mandate only for four months until 28 September instead of the normal six months.
The renewed charge, even after the extension of the mandate by the government, will it difficult for UNMIN to continue its work in Nepal effectively amid government distrust.
Defence Minister Bidya Bhandarihasn;t withdrawn a charge the UN body was a ‘tail’ of Maoists.
The charge confirms government’s unhappiness and dissatisfaction with
UNMIN with which Maoists are happy.
The minister said in Solukhumbu Sunday only 4,000 of 19,000 plus former combatants can be integrated in Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force.
Chemjung said this one day after Maoist military leader Barsha Man Pun Ananta said the party will push launch of a separate security force with the former fighters.
Pun revealed the demand will be raised by the party at a meeting of a special committee headed by the prime minister.
The minister also blamed Maoists for delay in integration and resettlement of former combatants.

Public accounts committee outs on hold business complex construction

Kathmandu, 6 June: Parliament’s public accounts committee Sunday asked concerned authorities to put on hold the construction of a business complex at the National Trading Ltd (NTL) property in front of Singha Durbar citing security concerns.
The complex next to army headquarters, central secretariat Durbar and supreme court will create security problems.
Cash-strapped NTL gave the site on long-term lease last week to Infinity Infrastructure to build a business complex following a go-ahead seven months ago by the cabinet.
The committee Sunday summoned officials of the commerce ministry and NTL for a hearing.

NRC conference in China

Kathmandu, 6 June: The second national coordination council meeting of Non-resident Nepali Nationals (NRN) will be held in Gwagchow, China, from 20 June, an announcement said.
The meet will discuss past gains and future plans.

Nepse index loses 24.01 points

Kathmandu, 6 June: Nepse index lost 24.01 points at the end of five-day trading Thursday closing at 482.34 points.
The market opened at 506.35 points Sunday.
Altogether 931,917 shares were traded for Rs 373.56 million; only 368,500 shares exchanged hands the previous week for Rs 151.22 million.
Insurance and development bank shares registered 13.96 and 1.91 point gains.
