Govt. sets aside Paropakar land for Girija park

Kathmandu, 21 July: Altogether 324 ropanis of land set aside for former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala;s statue and park in Dadikhot, Bhaktapur, belongs to Parokapar, Annapurna Post reports.
The cabinet Friday decided to construct a park there.
The organization said the government handed over the land to Paropakar in 2046 for the constitution of an orphanage; an orphanage and children’s village is running there now.
Paropakar objected to the cabinet decision and asked for its retraction.
The organization said Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala took an illegal proposal to the cabinet to capture the land being used by Paropakar.
‘Instead of helping the children’s village, government has taken an illegal decision,” General Secretary Hitkarbir Singh of Paropakar said.
Twenty-six orphans are being housed there now with plans to increase orphan population to 500,” he said.

Nepal’s effective leadership of LDCs questioned

Kathmandu, 21 July: Nepal’s leadership of the LDCs and land-locked nations has been questioned at a time when the country is seeking the presidency of the 66th session of the UN general assembly, Annaprna Post reports.
The group of LDCs and land-locked countries have 49 members.
Some members have questioned through letter Nepal’s ineffective leadership the last seven months, a senior foreign ministry source said.
The five million rupees set aside by the government after Nepal got leadership of the group hasn’t been released.

Bangladesh visas on arrival for Nepalis

Kathmandu, 21 July: Nepalis will now get visas on arrival in Bangladesh, Nagarik reports.
This was decided at the just concluded bilateral trade talks.
The arrangement will come into effect soon.
