NC, Maoist talks; other details

Kathmandu, 3 July: Ruling party Nepali Congress (NC) Saturday demanded Maoists implement point 1 of a three-point 28 May government between three major parties to form a national unity government demanded by Maoists.
Three-member Maoist talks team headed by Chairman Prachanda and consisting of vice-chairmen Baburam Bhattarai, Mohan Baidya and Narayan Kazi Shrestha negotiated with Nepali Congress leaders Acting President Sushil Koirala, Ram Chandra Paudel and Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Shrestha cut short a visit to China and joined the Maoist talks team negotiating the formation of a successor government of Madhav Kumar Nepal who resigned Wednesday.
NC Vice-President and parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel said Maoists must implement past commitments, including the return of seized assets, dissolution of YCL, to form a unity government.
Bhattarai Saturday pushed a government led by Maoists.
‘A Congress candidate is president, UML candidate is speaker and MJF candidate is a vice-president; the prime minister should be a Maoist candidate,” he told reporters.
At a meeting earlier between UML and Maoists Saturday, the ruling party leading the government also demanded the main opposition first implement past commitments for a government of national unity to which UML agreed in principle.

“ Three Ss have become an ear-sore. Only shanti, sahamati and sanbidhan are on the radio and television. Do something about. Get it done. Let’s get on with life.”
