EIGHT CONTENDERS FOR NC PRESIDENT, GENERAL SECREARY. TREASURE DON’ T WITHDRAW CANDIDACY

Kathmandu, 19 Sept.: Eight contenders for president, general secretary and treasurer from three panels in NC didn’t withdraw their candidacies Sunday.
Acting President Sushil Koirala, Prakash Man Singh and Parshu Narayan Chaudhary filed nominations Saturday for president, general secretary and treasurer.
Three-time Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Bimalendra Nidhi and Chitralehha Yadav filed nominations for president, general secretary and treasurer from another panel.
Bhim Bahadur Tamang and Narahari Acharya filed nominations for president and general secretary from the third group.
Elections are being held Tuesday.

MAHAKALI RIVER CHANGES COURSE, INUNDATES FIVE SETTLEMENTS

Kathmandu, 19 Sept. Following three days of incessant rain, Mahakali river breached embankments, changes course and inundates five settlements around Bhimdutta municipality in Kanchanpur district in the far-West Sunday.
Water flow Sunday was recorded at 380,490 cusecs—the highest in two years.
Nearly 500 families from 112 houses were evacuated to safer places by rescue workers of Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force.
India stopped movement of people across a bridge over the river.
Locals blamed corrupt contractors for construction sub-standard embankments embezzling millions of rupees.

TWO- WAY TRAFFIC BEING REOPENED ON PRITHVI HIGHWAY SUNDAY NIGHT

Kathmandu, 19 Sept.: Frantic efforts are being made to reopen two-way traffic on the Prithvi Highway from Sunday, Roads Department officials said.
Traffic was opened for one –way traffic Saturday after removing roadblocks at Fishling in Chitwan and at another point in Dhading.
Hundreds of vehicles and passengers have been stranded by the roadblocks because by landslide triggered by heavy rain.
Monsoon is expected to end in another fortnight.

8TH ROUND ELECTION FOR PM WILL BE UNFORTUNATE: PRACHANDA


Kathmandu, 19 Sept.: Talks should be held with NC to break the protracted political deadlock to elect a prime minister, Maoist Vice-chairman Narayan Kazi Shrestha said Sunday in the capital.
Six small parties supporting Maoists also discussed possibility of majority government of Maoists and UML.
Discussions were held following a decision of UML and Maoists not to participate the 26 September 8th round voting for prime minister.
‘There’s no alternative to an understanding,” Chairman Prachanda said adding the8th round election for government chief, if held, will ‘be unfortunate’.
Maoists and UML can form a majority government as they have a majority in the 601-member parliament.

NEW COLLATERAL RULE TO HIT REALTY SECTOR

Kathmandu, 19 Sept.: People aspiring to buy land and housing taking loans from banks and financial institutions (BFIs) by pledging the same as collateral will not be able to have their plan materialized now, Republica reports.
The government this week imposed a new rule, whereby buyers will not be able to pledge the land and housing as collateral at BFIs on the very day they bought it.
Issuing a circular, Ministry of Land Reporms and Management this week instructed all Land Revenue Offices across the country not to allow buyers pledge the property being bought as collateral on the same day.
