MORE ADDITIONS OF NEPAL DEVELOPMENTS

By Bhola B Rana

Kathmandu, 20 Nov.: Maoist attitude stiffened after a hurriedly convened meting of the powerful standing committee ahead of the 6th plenum beginning in Gorkha Sunday.
The standing committee will continue its meeting in Gorkha after meeting in the capital Friday.
Speaker Nemnang has earlier adjourned parliament session until 2 December by which time the plenum would have ended.
It’s certain with new deterioration in the political situation, the integration of and resettlement of the 19,000 combatants won’t be completed before UNMIN quits Nepal 15 January 2011.
Maoist attitude hardened after US Ambassador Scott H. DeLisi toed the NC and UML line to de-link from former fighters to ensure a democratic future.
UNMIN also asked Maoists not to permit 19,000 combatants to participate in the plenum against the sprit of a 12-point New Delhi peace accord between Maoists and seven parliamentary parties.
Parliament was scheduled to meet at three in the afternoon Friday but it didn’t meet at all throughout day amid differences on procedures to elect a successor of PM Nepal and procedures to present the budget at parliament’s business advisory committee.
Differences first surfaced Thursday at a committee as some parties opposed presidential intervention to remove obstacles to present the budget amid charges criminal president was being empowered by government.
