SUPREME COURT ORDERS STOP TO DISTRIBUTE VOTERS’ ID CARDS

Kathmandu, 25 Nov.: In a far-reaching decision of immense political significance, a single bench of Prakash Wasti of the supreme court issued an interim order Thursday directing election commission to stop distributing digital voter registration cards against presentation of documents other than citizenship certificates.
The commission, on pressures of Madeshbadi parties and the Big Three, overturned its own decision to distribute cards only by presenting citizenship certificates.
The commission said five million on-citizens were included in the voters’ list in the 2007April constituent assembly parliamentary elections.
The supreme court issued the order on a writ petition filed by five persons saying the revised decision of the apex court was ‘anti-national’.
The commission was distributing ID cards in 58 municipalities in 43 of 75 districts.

NC CALLS FOR CONVENING PARLIAMENT SESSION

MAOIST PLENUM DETAILS

Kathmandu, 25 Nov.: Maoist sanding committee and the full plenary session of the main opposition begins in Gorkha Friday.
The standing committee will meet before the full 6th plenary session
to adopt a party strategy amid a political stagnation at the national
level.
Chairman Prachanda and Vice-chairmen Dr Baburam Bhattarai
and Mohan Baidya will address the standing committee.
They have presented their plans for the party position to be
adopted by the plenum.

IMPORT ON GOLD BAN TO BE LIFTED FRIDAY

Kathmandu, 25 Nov.: Government is lifting the ban on gold and silver import by private parties Friday, an announcement said.
The move is expected to lower the price of precious metals the local market.
No quota has been fixed on quantity import.
The move follows increase in customs duty of precious metals in
the budget announced Saturday.

Kathmandu, 25 Nov.: Property worth Rs. 20 million gutted when a fire caught Gorge Paints Industry of Sushil Dhanawat at Pokhariya in Biratnagar Municipality-1 on Thursday, RSS reports from Morang.

According to the District Police Office, Morang, raw materials, paint ready to be delivered to market and other valuable goods of the industry were destroyed by the fire.

Police suspected that the fire might have broken due to an electric short circuit.
