MAOIST MILITARY LEADER CONFIRMS PARTICICIPATION OF PLA IN PLENUM

Kathmandu, 21 Nov.: Maoist military leader Nanda Kishore Pun Sunday confirmed participation by former PLA combatants in the 6th party plenum that began in Gorkha.
“Selected participants are participating. Some representatives from every division are participating,” he said.
An estimated 1,100 to 1,200 former fighters have assembled in Gorkha among 6,000 plus delegates.
Pun said this even as pasty Spokesman Dinanath Sharma Friday following the first day’s standing committee meeting in the capital said combatants wouldn’t be in Gorkha.
UNMIN warned Maoists presence in Maoists in the plenum would be a violation
of a 12-point peace agreement between Maoists and seven parliamentary
parties signed in New Delhi four years ago.
Closed door session of the five-day plenum begins Monday.
“They cannot return to cantonments,” Minister Dr Manindra Rijal of NC said Sunday.
Meanwhile, seven parties, including NC and UML, Sunday said former fighters who are delegates in the plenum said they don’t qualify for integration in state security agencies.
The parties met at the UML headquarters Sunday.
‘They are political workers. They are not combatants. They can’t be integrated,’ a UML spokesman said after the joint meet,
The issue will be discussed with Maoists, he said.

ANURADHA KOIRALA COLLECTS $125,000

Kathmandu, 21 Nov.: Anuradha Koirala, founder of Maiti Nepal, collected $ 100,000 in addition to $25, 000 after being CNN declared Hero of the Year 2010.
She was selected among 10 contestants.
Since 1993, she has rescued and rehabilitated 12,000 women and girls at her
Homes.

RPP-NPAL MEMORANDU

Kathmandu, 21 Nov.: RPP-Nepal presented a memorandum to he election commission Sunday demanding it rescind a decision to include names of
persons in a digitalized voters’ list without presenting citizenship certificates.
The commission renegaded on an original decision to include names of persons in a revised list for accuracy to prevent fraudulent votes in the future.
The commission said five million non-citizens were included in a voters’ list in
the 2008 for constituent assembly and parliamentary elections won by Maoists.
Rashtrya Janamorcha, a splinter communist group, charged mainly Madeshbadi parties, Maoists, NC and UML pressurized the commission to change its original stance.
The group represented in parliament is holding anti-commission
protests in the terai this week.

SUBASH NEMWANG ASKS PARTIES TO PUSH FOR CONVENING PARLIAMENT SESSION

Kathmandu, 21 Nov.: Speaker Subash Nemwang Sunday asked political parties
to try convene the prorogued session of parliament which was prorogued by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on the recommendation of the caretaker government
of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal Friday.
He made the call at a public function in the capital.
‘The candidacy is not a problem.” the speaker said referring to the candidacy of NC
Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel for government chief to replace Nepal.
He said a reconvened session of parliament can take up the candidacy.
Nenwamg said this as analysts debated the fate of Paudel’s candidacy in the
prorogued legislature.
A recalled parliament session considers bills in the prorogued legislature.
But what happens to pending proposals that aren’t bills?, analysts asked.
Nemwang said Friday’s incident in parliament was ‘unfortunate;’; parties should make should make a public commitment not to repeat the incident.
