PRACHANDA TO CONTINUE AS CHIEF OF CONSTITUTION DRAFTING SUB-COMMITTEE (UPDATE).
Kathmandu, 6 April: In a retreat, UCPN (Maoist) office bearers decided
Wednesday Chairman Prachanda will continue as chief of an empowered
sub-committee to resolve differences on articles to be incorporated in a
constitution that has to be promulgated by 28 May.
Prachanda earlier said he was stepping down because of a busy schedule
and suggested he be replaced by Vice-chairman Narayan Kazi Shrestha opposed
by NC and UML who are in the sub-committee..
The party argued time was short to complete a constitution draft and leadership
change wouldn’t help.

ADB SAYS ONLY 3.8 GDP GROWTH WILL BE RECORDED
Kathmandu, 6 April: Manila-based Asian Development Bank (ADB), Nepal’s
largest multilateral donor, will only record a 3.8% GDP growth in the current
year and will jump to 4 percent next year.
The projection is dismal.
The performance is one of the weakest by countries in the South Asian region as
other countries record more impressive results.
The weak and unimpressive result is the result on overemphasis on politics ignoring the economy.
Nepal is emerging as a pocket of poverty between India and China that have
recorded repeated economic results.
