QUAKE DAMAGES HOMES, TRIGGERS LANDSLIPS
FAR-WEST QUAKE TRIGGERS LANDSLIDES, HOUSES CRACK
Kathmandu, 5 April: Houses cracked and landslides were triggered by an
earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale that hit the far-West at 5.16 in the afternoon.
The epicenter of quake that lasted 32 seconds was at Chapari in Darchula bordering India and Tibet.
No human casualties were reported.
One dozen houses cracked in Darchula district headquarter Khalanga.
It will take several days for complete reports to come from remote and isolated hill areas.
The quake that was recorded in New Delhi damaged at least two dozen houses in Darchula, Baitadi and Bhajang.
Panic stricken people rushed out of houses and spent the night in the open in Dhangadi.
Landslides were triggered by the jolt in Baitadi.

NC CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEET POSTPONED
Kathmandu, 5 April: A scheduled meeting of NC central committee meeting was postponed Tuesday following the death of a former lawmaker from Kaski.
The meeting was to discuss strengthening Nepal Students’ Union- a student wing of the party.
The union has become dysfunctional for years following dispute between
supporters of party President Sushil Koirala and three-time former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Former NC lawmaker Krishna Bahadur Gurung, 69, died Sunday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital.
He left behind a wife, two sons and three daughters.
