UML IN GOVT. CHANGES STANCE ON SUPPLEMENTARY BUGET; MAOISTS STICK TO IT
By Bhola B Rana
Kathmandu, 4 April: UML, leading a communist-dominated with Maoist,
support, has seemingly abandoned an effort to bring a supplementary budget for the remaining three months of the current fiscal year 2010/11 amid Maoist
insistence it should be presented.
Finance Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari, who is also deputy prime minister, told parliament’s public accounts committee (PAC) after summons, said a complete budget would be presented by mid-May.
This is the first political fallout after the sudden walkout from office by
Finance Secretary on differences with his boss of the budget.
The walkout has come as a serious embarrassment for the new government
of Jhalanatah Khanal.
Secretary Khanal broke the news that Adhikari was preparing a supplementary bugget outside the ministry consulting people outside the ministry.
Khanal has returned to the capital after a trek and meeting family in Palpa and Parbet.
He appeared before reporters in the capital and reiterated his charges
against Adhikari and policy differences with the minister.
Meanwhile, Maoist Secretary CP Gajurel, after a party standing
meeting in Sindhupakchowk, demanded a supplementary budget.
“We have objections with the present budget. That’s why we opposed t. We want a supplementary budget,” he told Katipur Radio Monday.
‘A full budget is approved now, t can’t be implemented before the end of the fiscal year,” Gajurel said.
