Kathmandu, 3 April: A two-day Maoist standing committee meeting
Sunday empowered party headquarters to choose remaining members of the government team, Vice-chairman Narayan Kazi Shresthas said.
The office has also been empowered to resolve difference in the
trade union split in three groups also.
The standing committee discussed fighting foreign reactionaries will who will be defeated, Shrestha said.
UML standing committee also began discussions with its standing committee Sunday evening to select remaining members of its
government team.

GOVT. TO PRESENT FULL BUDGET BY NEXT TUESDAY



Kathmandu, 3 April: Finance Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari, told
parliament’s public account committee Sunday government will present a full budget for the remaining three months of the current in henext nine days next Tuesday.
The government installed two months ago was preparing to
present a supplementary budget.
Adhikari said this after he was summoned by the committee to
answer allegations forced resignation of Finance Secretary Rameshwor Khanal who charged Adhikari for preparing a supplementary
without his knowledge and outside the ministry.
He admitted a proposed budget was discussed with Maoists in government but denied the secret document laws discussed with business leaders.
Adhikari said he had no principled differences with Khanal and addef differences on a supplementary budget were exaggerated.

TWO DEAD, TWO INJURED IN VEHICLE ACCIDENT AT KRISHNAVIR

Kathmandu, 3 April: Two persons were killed and two were injured when a private vehicle fell into Trisuli river at Krishnavir in Dhading Sunday.
The injured have been rushed to the capital for treatment.
The site of the accident is a killer spot.
The vehicle was heading for the capital from Bhairahawa.

NEPAL ARMY CHIEF TO HOLD DISCUSSIONS WTH TOP US
MILTARY BRASS

Kathmandu, 3 April: Army Chief Gen. Chatraman Singh Gurung will
proceed to Washington DC from New York to have discussions with senior most
US military officials on bilateral strategic matters.
Washington hasn’t resumed military assistance to Nepal after the royal
takeover in 2005 and is demanding action against army personnel perceived to be
involved in rights abuses during a 10-year Maoist insurgency.
During the insurgency, USA helped form a ranger battalion of fight Maoists, trained and equipped them with automatic weapons.
President George W. Bush told visiting Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to ‘search, find and kill Maoists.’
The policy was reversed after 2005 and Maoists are now in power in Singha Durbar in a major setback for US diplomacy in Nepal along China’s sensitive border along Tibet.
The army chief will interact with diplomats of State Department handling South Asia.
Gen. Gurung held discussions for two UN officials for two consecutive
days Thursday and Friday in New York on Nepal’s participation in UN peacekeeping
operations.
He held discussions Friday with head of UN peacekeeping operations
Alain Le Roy and Lt. Gen. Babacar Gaye, military advisor of UN peacekeeping operations.

PM KHANAL NOT PRACHANDA PRIORITY IN NEPAL-INDIA TIESANIL GIRI,

Kathmandu, 3 April:The rapprochement between India and Nepal’s Maoists will have to wait until after Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal’s India visit, said Indian leaders privy to the ongoing developments, Anil Giri, Mahesh Acharya report in The Kathmandu Post.

Individuals, conduiting as contacts between the Maoists and New Delhi report that their efforts to normalize relations between the two are close to fruition. Sharad Yadav, President of Janta Dal United (JDU) and convener of the opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and others are lobbying with the government to reach out to the Maoists.

“Officials say they are serious about inviting Prachandajee, but they first want to welcome Jhala Nathjee to hear his government’s views on Nepal-India relations, “ said KC Tyagi, General Secretary of JDU. Tyagi is a confidante of JDU President Yadav.

“The government has not given a date yet for PM Khanal’s visit,” said Tyagi. It is the custom to send an invitation to a new prime minister with a congratulatory message. But Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh’s message to Khanal upon his election as prime minister conspicuously omitted the customary invitation.

Those in the know said the government will turn to Nepal as soon as it gets respite from internal political problems due to the WikiLeaks exposé. Assembly elections in five states and Indo-Pak talks also have kept India busy, they say.

The prime minister’s aides in Kathmandu say that PM Khanal is keen to visit India as soon as a formal invite comes, but they are insisting that India send Indian External Affairs Minister SM Krishna to Kathmandu prior to it. Krishna was scheduled to visit by March-end. Sources in New Delhi attribute the delay to the absence of a foreign minister in Nepal.

Khanal is trying to walk a fine line—attempting to veer away from his predecessor’s shadow but is conscious not to ruffle feathers. A lot depends on how soon the Cabinet is expanded, said the source, adding, “The appointment of a new foreign minister can set the ball rolling.”

WORLD CUP FINAL GRIPPED NEPAL LEADERS





Kathmandu, 2 April.: When the cricket fans around the world were enjoying the final match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 between India and Sri Lanka, top brass leaders of Nepal also hurried to watch the matches in their television sets by postponing the crucial party meeting, Ram Prasad Dahal reports in The Rising Nepal.

Many might wonder but the ongoing central committee meeting of Nepali Congress (NC) was also put off Saturday because of the cricket match.
According to NC leaders, the meeting was postponed till Tuesday as many central committee members wanted to watch the match.
"Yes, all central members were enthusiastic to watch the game, they left the meeting after putting their views, I also did the same, Bimelendra Nidhi, Central Member of NC told The Rising Nepal.
When one after another leaders left the meeting in a hurry, it was postponed without taking any decision, he said.
The CWC meeting was called to decide whether Nepal Students Union, the party’s sister organization, should be dissolved. But the fourth day meeting was also postponed without making any decision, thanks to the cricket match.
On Saturday’s meeting, 18 central members had put their views on the matter.
Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat, Kul Bahadur Gurung, Bimelendra Nidhi, Narahari Acharya,
Gopal Pahadi, Dil Bahadur Gharti, Narendra Bikram Nembang, Badri Pandey, Kishwor Singh Rathour, Padam Narayan Choudhari, Mahendra Yadhav, Laxmi Rai, Farmulla Mansur, Aftab Alam, Min Bishowkarma, Rajan Raj Panta, Surya Man Gurung among others had expressed their views on the issue of NSU.
Sources informed that the members were divided over the issue as the leaders close to the establishment were in favor of dissolving the NSU whereas Sher Bahadur Deuba-led fraction was against the idea.
However, the leaders of both groups agreed that the NSU should be made active by organizing it’s congress soon.
Meanwhile, when the central members in the party were involving in hot debates on the proposal brought to dissolve the NSU, its president Pradeep Poudel tendered his resignation from his post Saturday afternoon.
"When the NC central members were divided over the row in the NSU and there could applynumber games to dissolve it. To end such situation within the party, I quit the post" Poudel told The Rising Nepal.
He said that it was a time for unity in the party and he quit the post for the unity, he said.
"The party was not serious about resolving the national issue, it was focusing on the row surfaced in it’s sister organizations," he said.
Poudel added that his resignation was to end groupism in the party and pave the way to get into the national issues.
He demanded that the party should hold the NSP’s congress as soon as possible and added that he would be ready to help for that.
