HETAUDA TEXTILE ASSETS HANDED OVER TO INDUSTRIAL ESTATE

Kathmandu, 27 April: Property of Hetauda Textile Industry, which has remained closed for the last one decade, has been handed over to the Hetauda Industrial Estate Management Limited following a decision of the Cabinet. The assets include building of the industry, land and other infrastructure, Pratap Bista reports from Hetauda in The KathmanduPost. .

The estate had long been requesting to the government to hand it over the industry’s property so that new industries could be established there. The government evaluated the building and other infrastructure at Rs 81.20 million and Rs 81.40 million for 256 ropanis of land. With this move, the government’s share in the estate has increased to around Rs 162.6 million.

Because of the government’s negligence, weak management, political interference and degrading outputs, the industry was forced to shut down on Feb. 12, 2001. Established 36 years ago, the industry had provided direct employment to 1,200 individuals, of which majority of them were females. The decision of handing over the industry’s property to the estate came after the government failed to operate it in lease and sale too.

Raj Kumar Mandal, manager of the Hetauda Industrial Estate Limited, said even though the government decided to handover the industry’s property to the estate four days ago, they have not been informed formally. He said after the decision, possibilities of setting up new industries in the estate have increased as the estate was facing a shortage of land.
