CA TENURE ENDS IN ANOTHER 16 HOURS

Kathmandu, 28 May: An extended one-year tenure of a constituent assembly (CA) empowered to promulgate a constitution ends in another 16 hours at midnight Saturday.
The communist majority government and opposition are deeply divided on its second extension with opposition demanding handover of Maoist weapons in containers Maoists have keys to the containers
They say handover would tantamount to surrender.
Maoists, NC and UML meet Saturday morning for a third summit in three days to find a resolution to the deadlock.
Exactly one year ago last year, parliament at midnight extended the tenure of a body whose members were directly elected by people only for two years.
Uncertainly prevails amid tension and crisis.
Ten of the last 12 months were spent attempting to pull down government or enter Singha Durbar.
Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal was elected 3 February with Maoist support and the communist majority government doesn’t even have the support of his own party amid charges of attempts to polarize national politics through communist domination.
