OUTCOME OF THREE PARTY SUMMIT AWAITED UPDATE

Kathmandu, 28 May: With less then five hours remaining for the tenure of the constituent assembly (CA) to end at midnight Saturday, the outcome of crucial summit talks between Maoists, NC and UML is awaited.
Maoists have proposed a written proposal for concluding peace and constitution drafting while UML has suggested four alternatives to end the deadlock.
Maoists have come down on their stance and suggested integration of 7,000 of 19,000 plus former combatants
“All parties are positive. The assembly tenure will be extended,” said Ram Janam Chaudhary of the five-party Loktantrik Madeshi Front after talks with Maoists.
The front previously backed the main opposition NC.
Chaudhary said the front presented a set of three demands to Maoists, including recruitment of l0, 000 Madeshis in Nepal Army over three to six months and immediate formation of a national government.
Bhaktapur-based Nepal Majdoor Kishan decided to vote for the extension of the assembly tenure to complete constitution drafting.
One lawmaker failed at the assembly premises during a wait since eight in the morning for more than 10 hours for the assembly session to begin/
Parliament will have to sit for four sessions before any proposals are approved after proceedings start, said Mukunda Sharma, a senior official of the legislature.
