FORMER IGP RANA SENT TO JAIL

Kathmandu, 24 July: Former IGP Om Bikram Rana Sunday was sent to jail after he failed to furnish a Rs.150 million bail was for his release slapped by a special court.
Rana was charged by CIAA for his involvement in a Rs 280 million scam for purchase of armoured personnel carries for police peacekeepers in Darfur, Sudan.
Rana signed the deal with a London-based company and it was executed by two other former IGPs Ramesh Chand Thakuri and Hem Gurung who were released after they furnished bails of Rs 70 and 50 million respectively.
Thirty-four police officers have been charged.

BODIES OF FIVE NEPALIS BROUGHT TO NEPAL

Kathmandu, 25 July: Bodies of five Nepali bus passengers who died in Dehra Dun, India, when a bus was entangled in high tension wire, were brought back home via Kanchanpur Monday.
Three of five bodies have been handed over to relatives.

MAOISTS RESHUFFLE GOVT.TEAM

Kathmandu, 24 July: Maoist central committee Sunday reshuffled team it sent to government 3 February under leadership of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara who will be replaced by Vice-chairman Narayan Kazi Shrestha.
The new team will have 12 ministers and 12 state ministers following heavy criticism the old team wasn’t representative.
Post Bahadur Bogati, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi Khadga Bahadur Bishwakarma and Prabhu Sah continue in government as information and communication, physical planning, works and law
and justice ministers respectively.
Lokendra Bista Magar, Pampha Bhusal, Lekhraj Bhatta and Hishila Yami, wife of Dr Baburam Bhattarai have been nominated ministers for health and planning peace and reconciliation, commerce and supplies and land reforms respectively.
Jayapuri Gharti, Mahndra Paswan and Onsari Gharti are ministers for children, women and social welfare, industry and youth and sports ministers respectively.
Controversial minister for communication Agni Sapkota, close to the Maoist boss has been recalled; he has been accused for rights abuses in the Maoist insurgency.
Ram Kumar Rai, Indra Jit Chaudhary, Amar Tamu, Devi Khadka,Satya Phadi,Sharad Singh Bhandari. Dharmashila Chapagain, Lila Bhandari, Kumari Moktan, Ghanashyam Yadav, Dhruba Angdambe and Shyam Man Dong was state ministers.
There are four women ministers and five state ministers.
Janajitis, Dalits, Madeshis, chetris and Brahmins are also represented in the ministry
Dev Prasad Gurung, Kamala Rokka and Khimlal Devkota have been appointed chief whip, whip and secretary in the parliamentary party,.
Factions in the party had been demanding Chairman share responsibilities and with other factions.

FORMER IGP OM BIKRAM RANA SENT TO JUDICIAL CUSTODY

Kathmandu, 24 July: Former IGP Om Bikrm Rana was sent to judicial custody Sunday.
He is one of three former IGPs accused by CIAA for involvement in a Rs.280 million scam for purchase of armoured personnel carriers ((APCs) for Nepal Police peacekeepers with in Darfur, Sudan.
Two former IGPs Hem Gurung and Ramesh Chand Thakuri have been freed after they posted bails of Rs 50 and Rs 70 million respectively.
A heating is scheduled at a special court Monday.
The special court Sunday sent to jail SPs Baidya Raj Shrestha and Krishna Prasad Guragain also charged in the scan after they failed to furnish bails of Rs 1,5 million each.
Charges have been leveled against 34 police officers.

INDIAN HIRED KILLER SENTENCED TO 5-YEAR IMPRISONMENT

Kathmandu, 24 July: Hired Indian killer Manmeet Singh was sentenced Sunday to five-year-imprisonment and a Rs. 100,000 fine by Kathmandu district court for a failed attempt to shoot dead Yunus Ansari at the high security central jail in the capital 10 March.
It’s not clear who hired Singh to murder the Nepali media tycoon who was imprisoned for dealing of counterfeit Indian currency notes and drugs.

NEPAL, MONTENEGRO ESLABISH DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

Kathmandu, 24 July: Nepal and Montenegro have established diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level
Representatives of the two countries signed an agreement at UN headquarters in New York establishing the ties,
Nepal now has diplomatic ties with 132 countries.
