EVEN 5% ‘KABADI’ WEAPONS OF NA SOLD BY GIRIJA REGIME
Kathmandu, 17Aug.: Bit it appears that the government chose not to retain those five percent materials as suggested by King Birendra, The Reporter says.
“King Birendra endorsed the cabinet proposal that was binding in nature,” a high placed official privy to those decisions told The Reporter
On May 16, Prime Minister briefed King Birendra that there was no use of having the ‘kabadi piled up”, and it should be sold and new weapons bought for the army. The King asked him to maintain record of the junk and retain at lest five per cent of the total material in the armoury for ‘record sake’ Following this, an evaluation team was constituted by the government and based on its recommendation, Koirala and Mahesh Acharya took the matter forward.
In life and death, corruption cases have hounded G.P Koirala ceaselessly. The disclosure of sale of ‘kabadi’ or junks from the Armoury of the Nepal army is fast snow-balling into a controversy that points needle of suspicion towards G.P. Koirala and his aides in the defence.
While a new debate has begun whether such ‘kabadis’ .including the ones with archaeological importance should have been sold off routinely, there is also an estimate that the state was cheated of at least 110 million rupees when the deal was made.
