Kathmandu, 14 Aug.: The Lumbini Development Trust has decided to allow the China’s Bejing Jongtai Jingsu Investment Company to build world’s 7th tallest statute of Gautam Buddha in Lumbini, The Rising Nepal reports from Bhairahawa.
The board meeting of the Trust has decided to allow the Chinese company to build 100 meters tall statue of Gautam Buddha, which will be the world’s 7th tallest statue of Buddha.
Treasure of the Trust Majhi Lal Tharu informed that the meeting also decided to send a letter to the company for signing an agreement between the Trust and the company.
According to him, the Chinese company first brought the proposal of constructing 100 meters tall statue of Buddha in a bid of transforming the birth place of Buddha and making Lumbini into an international religious tourist center and international Buddha Center.
However the government of the Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal too had given its verbal consent to the company for the project. And after completing a series of study over the proposal, the Trust has finally decided to allow the project.
The fund informed that it would send official letter to the company by Monday.
The office further informed that the company has also put forward the proposal of running mini electronic buses around Lumbini area, electronic boats at central canal and a circular levy pond and also the international peace garden in the premises of the Lumbini.
The construction process of the idol at the viable place is also being considered. Although the Trust is still working on a international Buddha museum, it has not allowed the company to run other projects, said Tharu.
The office has allocated a total of 1700 square meter area situated at the northern part of the World Peace Stupa for the Buddha statue. China has five out of ten tallest Buddha statues of the world.
Moreover, the Trust informed that former Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Li-Thapyao is the chairperson of the company who is conducting project at the area.

PRESSURE MOUNTS ON SUSHIL KOIRALA TO BACK DEUBA
Kathmandu, 14 Aug.: As the national politics is likely to take a new course following debates over the resignation of Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala is under immense pressure to pick senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba as the party's prime ministerial candidate, The Kathmandu Post reports.
Not only the Deuba camp but his own supporters are now piling pressure on Koirala to field Deuba--instead of Parliamentary Party (PP) leader Ram Chandra Poudel-- as the PM candidate.
Over a dozen Central Working Committee members including those from the Koirala camp on Saturday evening decided to pile pressure on the president to take a win-win option at the earliest.
General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula, who is considered a close Koirala aide, is now lobbying openly for Deuba's candidacy.
“It is clearly seen that pressure has been mounting on Koirala to field Deuba as the party's PM candidate,” said CWC member Gagan Thapa.
Besides Sitaula, CWC members loyal to Koirala like Arjun Narsingh KC, Kul Bahadur Gurung, Bal Dev Majgaiya and Purusottam Basnet have joined the Deuba camp.
Last week, Koirala also felt the need to replace Poudel with Deuba as PP leader after the Deuba camp started collecting signatures of a majority of lawmakers. Koirala had even asked some interlocutors to convince Poudel.
However, CWC members including Ram Saran Mahat, Amod Prasad Upadhyay and Shekar Koirala advised Koirala to adhere to the party's decision to pick Poudel as the party's PM candidate.
“We will wait until Monday,” said a Deuba confidante. “If the president does not remove Poudel as the PP leader until Monday, we will have no alternative but register a no-confidence motion against Poudel.”
Deuba's aides told the Post that almost 60 CA members have given the nod to remove Poudel from the PP leader.
“We wanted the president to accommodate our concerns and take a decision at the earliest. But he repeatedly failed to do so. We are running out of patience and will register a no-confidence motion against Poudel at the party's Parliamentary Committee next week,” said Dina Upadhyay.
