MAOIST GENERAL SECRETARY SAYS NO MAOIST APPROVAL TO CONTOVERSIAL AGREEMENT WITH INDIA

NC DISUPTE WILL BE RESOLVED SOON; SUSHILS KOIRALA

Kathmandu, 23 Oct : President of the Nepali Congress (NC) Sushil Koirala said that the internal party dispute in his party will be resolved soon, RSS reports from
Damauli.
Speaking at a function organized by NC Tahahun District Committee in Damauli on Sunday, he said parties normally have differences of opinions and discussions saying disagreements among the leaders in his party will be resolved through consensus.
In a different note, NC President Koirala said the UCPN (Maoist) now seems serious for the peace and constitution of late, and that his party was waiting to see Maoist performance.

Responding to the inquiry put forth by media persons on the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (BIPPA) signed by Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, he said he will give his reaction only after reading the agreement thoroughly.

Kathmandu, 23 Oct 23: General Secretary of the UCPN (Maoist), Ram Bahadur Thapa, said Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has signed the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (BIPPA) with India going against the party discipline, RSS reports from Chitwan.

"The Standing Committee meeting of the UCPN (Maoist) held a day prior to the Prime Minister´s visit to India had decided not to sign BIPPA," he claimed while addressing the intellectuals’ gathering in Bharatpur of Chitwan district.
Thapa was for taking disciplinary action against Dr. Bhattarai as he disobeyed the party´s direction. He warned if the agreement was not scrapped immediately it will take a severe form.

He stressed on the need for struggling against the party´s establishment faction´s wrongdoings saying the group of the party committed mistakes one after another beginning from four-point deal signed with Samyukta Madheshi Morcha, the issue of returning property captured during the insurgency, key handover issue of the arms kept in the cantonments and lately the signing of BIPPA.

PRIVATE SCHOLS CLOSED DOWN IN CHITWAN
Kathmandu, 23 Oct.: Teachers associated to Private and Boarding Schools' Organisation of Nepal (PABSON) in Chitwan have shut down all the private schools in the district
Today [Sunday], RSS reports from Chitwan.

They are into agitation saying different agreements made in the past have not been implemented and service and facilities have not been provided to teachers as per the salaries and allowances hiked by the government.

According to Chairman of the Institutional Schools Teachers' Union (ISTU), Chitwan, Keshab Pathak, they have launched the agitation programme saying previous agreements were not implemented.

We have also announced agitation programmes putting forth different four-point-demand including shutting down the schools for indefinite time if their demands are not fulfilled by October 31, said Pathak.

There are around 4,000 teachers in the district.

They claimed that the schools did not provide additional allowance for one month during Daishan as well as the salaries and allowances declared for the teachers.

UPER KARNALI SHOULDN’T BE A BARGAINING CHIP

Kathmandu, 23 Oct.: Participants of an interaction programme have suggested not to make the Upper Karnali as a bargaining chip, RSS reports from Dailekh.

NC Constituency No. 2 President Ghanashyam Bhandari made this comment while speaking at a programme jointly organised by the Rastriya Janamorcha, NWPP and UCPN-Maoist on ‘National independence and Upper Karnali’ in Dailekh

NWPP district chairman and CA Member Jagge Bahadur Shahi and Rastriya Janamorcha Central Councilor Jagat Regmi said as the Upper Karnali was against national interest, it should be canceled.

The preparation of the final preliminary survey report was also stopped after the Maoist workers caused damages on the GMR office at Paltada of Dailekh on May 19 and damaged equipment worth Rs. 15 million.

The GMR had made plans to generate electricity in four years if the government agreed to its preliminary report prepared in three years.

As the 300 MW project was opposed, it was said 900 MW could be generated, which was thought to be only an allurement.

NO GOVT. ATTENTION TO SECURITY OF
MUSLIMS; CHARGE
Kathmandu, 23 Oct.: Participants at an interaction programme here have expressed their sadness over Muslim Community falling in the sphere of insecurity due to frequent attacks on leaders of the community, RSS reports from Nepalgunj.

At the programme entitled 'Series of murders of Muslims, reason and its elimination' organised by the Struggle Committee, which was formed against the murder of Faijan Ahamed, the participants complained that the government was not serious towards
security of the Muslim Community, and vented ire saying the government could not take concrete steps on providing security after such attacks.

On the occasion, central member of the CPN-UML Devraj Bhar stated that the general public should keep themselves safe as security condition of the country has been weakened.

During the programme, lawyer Abdul Aziz Musalman, central member of Nepal Ittehad, Halim Sah, Salim Siddiqui of UCPN-Maoist had also expressed their opinions.
