AG SAYS HE’S EFFORTING WITHDRAWAL OF CASES AGAINST MAOISTS AMID NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL OBJECTIONS
Kathmandu, 5 Nov.: Attorney General (AG) Mukti Pradhan has said that
he would be effortful to scrap the cases filed against the Maoist leaders during the insurgency for political reasons, as per the spirit of the comprehensive peace accord, RSS reports.
Speaking at a program organised by the UCPN-Maoist Ichangunarayan village committee in his honor, the attorney general said that maintaining rule of law in the state was a challenging job during the transitional period.

On the occasion, Pradhan said he would try his best to give a semblance of rule of law in free and fair manner.

During the program, Maoist politburo member and lawmaker Hisila Yami urged the attorney general to be committed to give the feel of rule of law to the people and wished for Pradhan's success during his tenure.

JOURNALIST DEAD AFTER FALL FROM CLIFF IN PALPA
Kathmandu, 5 Nov.: Journalist Laxman Ghimire based in Palpa district has died after he fell off a cliff on Saturday. He was the former district working committee member of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Palpa chapter, RSS reports from Tansen.

The body of Ghimire was found as it was stuck on the ledge of the cliff near his house at Nayarnamtalesh VDC.

Journalist Ghimire, who is the vice president of the Nepal Press Union, Palpa, was associated with the district-based Palpa Times and the Tilottama Daily including other media in the district.

Besides, he had been teaching at several colleges in the district including the Tribhuvan Multiple Campus Tansen, the Tansen Multiple Campus and the Mohan Kanya Higher Secondary School.

He is survived by his spouse and a daughter.

Following the death of journalist Ghimire, the FNJ Palpa chapter has expressed heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and wished for eternal peace to the departed soul.

Issuing a press statement today, the Chapter has termed Ghimire's death as a great loss to the entire mass communication sector of the country.

DEAD RHINO FOUND ALONG NARAYANI RIVER
Kathmandu, 5 Nov.: A rhinoceros was found dead at the Narayani River bank at Seri, the border of Chitwan and Nawalparasi districts, RSS reports from Chitwan..

The officials led by Chief Conservation Officer of the Chitwan National Park, Jhamak Bahadur Karki, have visited the incident site. The team has concluded that it might have died due to old age.

Earlier to this, two other rhinoceros had died in Chitwan this year. The latest census has counted 503 rhinoceros in the park.

VDC SECRETARIES CLOSE DOWN DANG VDCs
Kathmandu, 5 Nov.: Secretaries of Dang district have closed down works of all 39 VDCs of the district from Saturday citing insecurity, RSS reports from Dang..

They took the move after the Indigenous Nationalities Federation District Struggle Committee set ablaze at Manpur VDC on Wednesday night. No works are done in any of the VDC offices due to the terror, according to Krishna KC, Officer at the District Development Committee (DDC) Information.

The Struggle Committee has called agitation by putting forth four demands and set fire saying the VDCs did not cooperate. They have demanded for the implementation of the ILO 169. Their four point demands include appointment of nationalities as staffs in the LGCDP Programme of the DDC, 15 percent of the amount of the grant to the VDC be given to the indigenous, indigenous people be nominated in the board, and primary rights of the indigenous in natural resources.

Meanwhile, the VDC Secretary Welfare Protection Centre Dang has said the work at the VDC can not be resumed until the security is guaranteed. However, CDO Rhishi Ram Sharma has assured to take action against the guilty and protect the VDCs and DC secretaries.
