MOHAN BAIDYA FORMER PLA SUPPORTERS SUBMIT LAST-MINUTE DEMANDS TO SPECIAL COMMITTEE SECREARIAT
Kathmandu, 27 Nov.: Supporters of Maoist First Vice-chairman submitted a seven-point memorandum with demands Sunday to Balananda
Sharma, coordinator of a special committee secretariat in Shaktikhor, Chitwan.
Sharma is overseeing the recording of preferences of 19,000 plus former Maoist PLA fighters at seven cantonments; 13,000 plus former
combatants recorded their preferences until Saturday on the eights day of recording their choices.
Most have opted for integration, only two preferred resettlement
and only two opted for resettlement; the third option is for
voluntary retirement,
The memorandum was submitted on the ninth day recording of preferences began amid calls from the rebel group in UCPN (Maoist) not to cooperation in the recording process.

A team of combatants led by deputy commander
Udaya Bahadur Chalaune, a deputy commander of the third division at the Chitwan camp submitted the memorandum.

The combatants demanded immediate golden handshake for those opting for voluntary retirement, residence facilities for disabled, additional
perks and packages for pregnant.

Honorary certificates were demanded for those choosing voluntary retirement, life-long medical treatment, treatment expenses and pension for the injured combatants and additional allowances for the physically challenged combatants.
