PRACHANDA SUB-COMMITTEE MEET INCONCLUSIVE
PRACHANDA SUB-COMMITTEE MEET INCONCLUSIVE
Kathmandu, 24 Dec.: There was no substantive discussions at a
sub-committee meet headed by Maoist Chairman Prachanda to sort out differences Saturday on themes to be included in a proposed constitution that has to be promulgated by 28 May.
The Maoist boss wasn’t resent at the sub-committee meet as he was preparing for a party central committee that is meeting later in
the day after four postponements citing inadequate preparations.
The sub-committee has narrowed down differences to 11 from 210 themes there has been no agreement of substantive issues.
The differences have to be resolved by 30 December.
But new problems have cropped up as a Maoist hard-line faction headed First Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya has raised objections on
previously agreed subjects following an open ideological dispute in the party leading the government.
The differences in the UCPN Maoist have raised fears disputes on these won’t be settled by 30 December or the next six days to
prepare a first draft of the basic law for circulation, amendment and approval.
A main constitution drafting committee headed by Nilambar
Acharya is preparing the first drafting on the basis of agreements at the Prachanda sub-committee.
