EXTENDED MAOIST CENTRAL COMMITTEE ENDS FRIDAY

Kathmandu,6 Jan.: An extended two-week Maoist central
committee meeting to sort out differences on party and approve
a political agenda ends Friday, Secretary CP Gajurel said.
Chairman Prachanda and First Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya will respond to various points raised by 120 speakers on rival political proposals on tw two senior-most leaders during a headed debate.
The party chief has proposed party unity and conclusion of the
peace process and constitution drafting while Baidya has
suggested people’s war in parliament and street to attain a
communist republic.
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, who is second vice-chairman, attempted Thursday to placate and woo Baidya on behalf of the establishment but failed.
Bhattarai drove to the Baidya residence for talks.
‘Let’s have unity in diversity and attempt to create an environment for unity,” the premier reportedly suggested.
‘Create an environment of confidence. There are some serious differences between us,” Baidya replied.
