PARLIAMENT SCHEDULED TO MEET FRIDAY

Kathmandu, 20 Jan.: Parliament is scheduled to meet Friday
amid declaration by opposition parties NC and UML Thursday they’ll go on anti-government protests to press government to; correct a decision
to formalize seizure of assets and register them at government offices.
The government decision effectively implements decisions of parallel Maoist governments during the insurgency to seize assets of opponents and so-called feudals even after an agreement with parties to return properties to complete the peace process.
The two parties boycotted the last session of the house when news of the government decision was published by a newspaper.
Government hasn’t announced the decision officially.
NC and UML have opposed the
Bhattarai government decision even as they legalized stolen cars by
Maoists during the war.

STUDENTS TO PROTEST PRICE HIKE

Kathmandu, 20 Jan.: Students, including Maoists, are holding an
hour-long protest Friday in front of campuses in the Valley to protest
this week’s hike in prices of POL products—the second in two months,.
State monopoly Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) said it’s still in the red after the hike.
Thirteen student organizations Thursday announced phased protests threatening closures, gheraos and sit-ins if a decision isn’t corrected by 10 in the morning Friday.
Sunsari was forcibly closed down Friday.

UML KOSHI ANCHAL WORKERS’ MEET

Kathmandu, 20 Jan.: UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal is scheduled to launch a launch a meet of workers of Koshi anchal in the eastern
region Friday in the presence of top party leaders.
The second biggest opposition party has been conducting such regional meetings in an effort to make it the largest political organization; it’s the third biggest party now.
The party announced a four-member dialogue team headed by
former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal to bring like-minded parties to unite communists.

AMER KHAN APPOINTED ETIHAD AIRWAYS GENERAL MANAGER

Kathmandu, 20 Jan.: Amer Khan has been appointed area general manager of Etihad Airways for Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal, an
announcement said.
Khan will be based in Karachi.
The national carrier of UAE operates direct flights to
Nepal from the Gulf emirate.

MINISTER WITH THREE PRIVATE NUMBER PLATES IN
HIS SEIZED GOVT. VEHICLE

Kathmandu, 20 Jan.: Energy State Minister Suryaman Dong was found three private number plates Wednesday in a Prado vehicle provided by
Chameliya Hydro Power Company, Nagarik reports.
The vehicle was seized by officials of Nepal Electricity
Authority (NEA) Wednesday.
