STUDENTS ANNOUNCE SECOND PHASE PROTEST AGAINST PRICE RISE
Kathmandu, 29 Jan. Thirteen student unions finalized and
announced Sunday second phase week-long protests that will
culminate with a gherao of Singha Durbar 6 February.
Protests will begin Monday.
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai ridiculed the student protests ad said government can’t afford to Rs 2 billion a month fr import of POL prodstssss, Nepal’s biggest import.
Maoists, in opposition, extensively used students to push their agenda.

Lance Corporal Gajbahadur Gurung, who served with 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment, was killed, British Defence Ministry

Gurung was born in Majthana, Nepal, on 16 October 1985,

ONLY 56KM ROAD CONSTRICTED IN FOUR MONTHS
Kathmandu, 29 Jan.: The government has constructed 56 kms roads during the first four month of the current fiscal year, RSS reports.
According to the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works, a total of 99 kms road was upgraded during the period while only one bridge was built during the period.
The Ministry said that the works for upgrading the quality of Gokuleshwor-Chainpur road section in Darchula has been started.
Similarly, only 42 kms track of the fast-track, linking Kathmandu to Tarai, was opened during the period.
The DPR and field survey of the third section for ring road construction in Biratnagar were completed.
The Ministry said that process to appoint consultants for developing modern cities along the Mid-Hilly Highway is in the final stage.

Talking journalists at Bharatpur Airport today, the former prime minister said attempts to ban on information was government´s weakness though keeping news secret that hamper country´s security situation and destabilize international relations was a positive step.
Some days ago, the government had given directives to the officials to keep different information secret citing different reasons.
Leader Deuba said making separate states for present 75 districts was his personal opinion and added that readymade structure should not be undermined.

JHAPA STRIKE
Kathmandu, 29 Jan.: A shutdown enforced by various students´ organizations has affected the normal life in Jhapa district in the far-east of the country, RSS reports from Bhadrapur.
The students unions have called for a general strike in the district under the second phase of their protest programmes calling for withdrawing the hike in the price of petroleum products.
No vehicles are operating on Jhapa section of the East-West Highway, the Mechi Highway and other feeder roads in the district since the morning due to the shutdown. As a result, the people have been inconvenienced.
Students have gathered at the Muktichowk in Birtamod to hold a protest rally. So far no untoward incidents have been reported in course of the shutdown, according to police.
