PM BHATTARAI TO INTERVENE ON BEHALF OF RAM KARKI
WITH INDIA GOVT. WHICH HASN’T ACCEPTED HIS NOMINATION AS AMBASSADOR
Kathmandu, 29 Feb.: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai is making a final effort to secure the concurrence of the Indian government for the
nomination of Ram Karki as ambassador to India, political aide
Debendra Paudel said Wednesday, according to Kantipur.
“A search has begun for an alternative. But the prime minister is
making a final effort for consultations with the Indian government.
India’s concurrence hasn’t come three months after his nomination.
Reasons aren’t known for the delay or whether the appointment has been rejected.
But the Bhattarai government nominated Karki even as his nomination was rejected by India for the first time when nominated by the Prachanda government.
Newspapers have speculated New Delhi is unhappy for his views on Gorkhaland movement and possible links with Naxals.
Karki is married to a senior Sikkim government official and acceptance of his appointment would be embarrassing for India, another
speculation said.
Karki handles foreign affairs in the Maoist party.
