The CC Tuesday condemned the government and home ministry ´for shielding criminals´ and said a protest memorandum will be presented to Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai.

OBJECTION TO SHORTENED PROCESS TO APPROVE CONSTITUTION
Kathmandu, 15 Feb.:: The Public Opinion Collection and Coordination Committee (POCCC) of the parliament has objected to the directive of the Parliament Secretariat to postpone the formation of the district mechanisms, RSS reports.

The committee had prepared to assign 20 teams by including MPs of the committee and employees to make the mechanism, in districts until March 3 from today. The mechanism was to collect opinions from the people on the new constitution.

However, the secretariat had directed to postpone the works for now as per the recent decision of the Business Advisory Committee.

The committee in a press conference organised today said its jurisdiction was interfered by the Secretariat's directive.

Whereas Committee Member Prem Bahadur Singh said it is better for the committee to work for constitution rather than objecting to the curtailment of rights.

DEUBA CALLS FOR PEACE INSTITUTIONALIZATION

Kathmandu, 15 Feb.: Former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba said that there was no possibility of development of social sectors including education and health unless peace was institutionalised in the country.
Deuba said that the main responsibility of the political parties is to fulfil the public’s expectations of peace and constitution. He further said that sustainable peace would only be maintained in the country if the cantonments of the Maoist combatants were vacated and their arms handed over to the government.
At a programme organized by the Padma Kanya Free Student Union today, former PM Deuba said problem of unemployment of the country would not be resolved without quality technical education. He added that problems of unemployment would not have increased if technical education system was implemented soon after the establishment of democracy.
Deuba claimed that student unions need to work as a mediator for the same which helps to discipline student politics.
Similarly, NC central member NP Saud said that present educational standard could not be uplifted as students have been centred on political issues rather than quality and infrastructure development of the University.
According to Chairman of the All Nepal National Independent Students' Union (Revolutionary), Himal Sharma, there should be no appointment of chiefs on the basis of political quota in the 60 constituent campuses under the Tribhuvan University.
Likewise, President of the Nepal Students Union (NSU) Ranjit Karna said that election of Free Students Union (FSU) should be held as soon as possible through direct election system on the consensus of all.
On the occasion, Chairman of Nepal Women's Association Dr Dina Sangroula, outgoing vice-president duo of the NSU Nayan Singh Mahar and Bhupendra Jung Shahi, FSU President of Padma Kanya Campus Lal Kumari Pokhrel, among others, said that student's politics should focus on making every educational institutions of the country free and impartial.
