PM, MADESH FRONT LEADERS MEET
Kathmandu, 8 March: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai Thursday
morning convened a meeting with leaders of a front of Madeshbadi
parties in government demanding immediate implementation of a
4-point agreement with the government chief’s party to keep the government afloat.
The agreement was initialed more than five months ago to give the
Maoists majority in parliament to assembly and lead a stable government.
The front pushed regional terai demands through the agreement amid charges now the party leading the government hasn’t implemented
the agreement to integrate 10,000 Madesh youth in Nepal Army,
distribute citizenship to children whose parents got naturalized
citizenship and other demands in the region bordering India
Bhattarai convened the meeting one day after the second man in
government Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachedhar also threatened to pull out of the government if regional demands aren’t
met by the end of March.
Gachedhar, who leads the MJFL and who was previously firmly
behind the coalition suddenly came out with the threat after majority
rebels in his party demanded a meeting of the parliamentary party to iscuss a no-confidence motion.
Another front member MJFN Ganantrik also threatened to withdraw
from government if Bhattarai doesn’t deliver the communications
ministry portfolio isn’t handed to the party,
Bhattarai took charge of the ministry following the conviction on
corruption by the supreme court of Communication Minister and Chaiirman of MJFN Chairman Jayaprakash Prakash Gupta who has been jailed
Demands have also been made by a section of the party heading the government for the resignation of the embattled Bhattarai
